Industry

The Collie community is a unique one, which manages to incorporate 80% of the area of the Shire in State Forest, and the major industries of Coal Mining, Power Generation and Bauxite Mining.

The community is accepting of industrial development within the Shire, and views it as providing valuable economic diversification for the region. Industry continues to be important to the future of Collie. However it has the unique ability to match the industrial developments with picturesque town and surrounding areas.

The Shire of Collie is very supportive of industrial development in Collie, which is reflected in its strategic planning. Council has identified the need to diversify the economic base of Collie and has identified opportunities in heavy industry, light industry and tourism related pursuits. These three identified potential diversifiers are reflected in recent developments of the Council:
